On The Radar: Season Series - Week One

Larry BlockSFHSSports: Twitter | Facebook

As the regular season has gotten underway throughout South Florida, the exposure race has begun.

What happened during spring and summer is fine, but what really counts now are these games over the next few months. That is exactly where college scholarships will be awarded.

Everyone knows how competitive football is in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties. It is certainly documented how many NFL players annually fill rosters at the next level from the 305 and 954.

While we already know that high school football is one of the vehicles for these quality athletes, it is also understood that many of them get ready to compete at a high level at the youth level, and that's where the separation begins.

No matter what class you are looking at, South Florida football players are always ready to compete and go against anyone and everyone. There is no fear playing highly rated athletes because many have been doing it since they began playing.

The reason a 9th or 10th grader can come in and make an impact at the varsity level can be traced to the competition and coaching they receive from the age of 8.

Even though we continue to put out lists and rankings, we also promote and provide exposure to every athlete - no matter which classification or size of school they play at.

Today, once again, we bring you six more prospects to put on the radar, joining the hundreds we have added over the past months.

2018 – Trequan Butler, DB, 5-10, 175, Miami Killian: Ever since the spring began, here is a football talent that everyone has been watching. Butler is a talented and aggressive secondary performer and the coaches have been impressed by what this young man continues to bring to the table. He's a solid competitor who plays the run very well and is physical enough to create positive matchups on passing downs. The Cougars have this tremendous prospect for two full seasons – which is going to be major for this program.

2017 – Brion Byrd, Jr., OLB, 6-0, 215, Deerfield Beach: On a team that has everything you are looking for in prospects, here is a young man who has thrust himself into a spotlight that will certainly get brighter and brighter. Byrd is a big, quick and strong athlete who plays off the other talented linebackers the Bucks have this season. If you want to watch him in action, follow the ball. There is no doubt that he will be right there in the middle of the action. This will be one of those playmakers that you certainly win football games with.

2017 – Drew Fearon, S, 6-0, 150, Coral Springs: Here is a football player we have had the chance to watch over the past year and over that time, we saw him perform and make plays. Fearon is truly one of those talents who will be a leader for the Colts. He's one of those prospects that has instincts and is always around the ball. His cover skills are equally as impressive as his ability to play the run. This is one of those instinctive athletes who will get better and continue to turn heads.

2018 – Francky Jean-Louis, OLB, 6-2, 190, Miami Dr. Krop: There is no getting around the fact that the Lightning have some mighty impressive football players, and many of them have been getting it done over the past few months, are underclassmen like this way-under-the-radar prospect. Jean-Louis' quickness and passion for the game have helped put him in a spotlight. His size and overall athletic ability have not only impressed his teammates and coaches, but the opposition has always noticed the rangy playmaker who will only get bigger and more confident.

2018 – Keyondre White, RB, 6-0, 210, Hollywood Chaminade-Madonna: With all the hoopla about many of the young football players the Lions have, this is one of those versatile and talented young men who really has the chance – over the next two seasons – to make a major impact. White is a hardnosed runner who has speed and power and he can also play on the defensive side of the ball, giving this team a huge edge and showing college coaches that he can perform on either side of the ball and make a solid impact. Keep your eye on this talented young prospect.

2018 – Vernon Williams, WR/DB, 6-0, 180, Miami Palmetto: With so many gifted football players on this team, here is someone we started watching in the spring and throughout the summer – and have continued to follow his progress. His ability to get open and make catches on the offensive side of the ball – as well as having the athletic ability to make a difference on defense. As the Panthers come together and mature, you can almost guarantee that Williams is going to be a player who will be at the center of that growth. He's yet another quality football talent who can make a huge impact on this team in 2016.
