MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- A Davie mom accused of a deadly hit and run is asking to get behind the wheel again.

Alana Richter recently had a baby and has a toddler already.

She's accused of a hit and run accident that killed Leonel Dorta in Davie in October 2015 in Davie.

In court, she asked a judge to allow her to drive for issues regarding her children.

The parents of the victim do not want to see her behind the wheel again.

"She's a coward. She fled from the scene of the crime.  When the cops went to her house, we're outside her house for 3 and a half hours and they asked her to come out and she refused to come out. Why wouldn't you come out of your house if you had nothing to hide and wasn't drinking," said the victim's father Leonel Dorta.

CBS4's Ted Scouten asked Richter for comment, but she and her attorney refused. The judge is expected to have an answer later Tuesday.
