McDonald's Pulls Activity Bands From Happy Meals

NEW YORK (CBSMiami/AP) — McDonald's has pulled the plug on their latest Happy Meal give away.
The Oak Brook, Illinois-based company said they did it after they received reports that their step it activity bands, which were available in the U.S. and Canada, caused skin irritations in some kids.
The plastic wrist worn device measures steps and blinks depending on the pace of the person wearing it. The bag says the activity bands were made in China.
Last week, a woman posted on Facebook that her child was burned by the tracker after playing with it for eight minutes.
Terri Hickey, a McDonald's representative, said in an email that McDonald's is "fully investigating this issue" and that restaurants are "offering our youngest guests an alternative Happy Meal toy."
The bands, which look like step counters, were seen as an odd promotion in some circles because of McDonald's reputation for serving fattening junk food. The chain has been trying to shed that image over the years, particularly with parents, in part by tweaking its Happy Meals to include fruit.
