Ferry Fire Prompts Evacuation Of Hundreds On Board

MIAMI (CBSMiami) --  U.S. Coast Guard officials responded to a fire reported on a passenger ferry early Wednesday morning.

The Caribbean Fantasy ferry was found off the coast of Puerto Rico near San Juan Harbor with 512 people on board.

An order was given to disembark passengers.

Coast Guard crews, Puerto Rico marine units, and commercial vessels such as tug boats assisted in the evacuation.

Passengers were taken to the Pan American Pier in San Juan harbor as emergency crews arrived to check passengers.

At last check, no specifics were given of possible injuries.

Around 11 a.m., crews were still disembarking ferry staff.
