JUPITER (CBSMiami) -- Following the grisly murder of a Jupiter couple inside their garage, police have released an audio recording of the 911 call the accused killer's mother made to police prior to the attack.

Austin Harrouff, 19, was eating dinner with his parents when there was an alleged argument that sent him leaving the restaurant and walking home, his mother, Nina Harrouff, told the 911 operator.

She told police that she did not think he was a threat to anyone other than himself.

"My son has taken off and I'm concerned for his own safety," she's heard saying Monday night, about three hours after Harrouff left Duffy's restaurant.

She told police that Austin had recently begun acting strangely.

"He feels immortal, like a superhero... and I don't know what's going on with him."

The police officer asked Nina if her son had been using drugs.

"I've asked and nothing recent... that I know of," she replied.

Nina then explained that her son had a switch blade on him and had no idea where he went.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office stated that after Harrouff left the restaurant, he randomly chose to viciously attack Michelle Stevens and her husband John, beating them, stabbing them and reportedly biting the face of .

His mother had no idea about that when she called police.

"Has he ever done this before? Or I mean, is this, like, something new," asked the 911 operator.

"No. His friends, I'm calling all his friends and they're like he's just... changed," Nina said.

Nina told police her son also made comments about monsters at dinner and left the restaurant continuing to speak bizarrely.
