Driver Doesn't Stop For Police, Fatally Crashes Into House

SUNRISE (CBSMiami) -- Police said a driver was killed after crashing into a Sunrise home early Sunday morning.
It happened just after 2 a.m. at 12050 N.W. 29th Street.
According to Sunrise Police, the driver crashed into the home sometime after failing to stop for an officer attempting to pull him over earlier in the evening.
At first, neighbors mistook the sound of the crash for the ugly weather outside.
"It was a little thunderstorm going on, then it calmed down for a bit. The lightning was hitting here and there," said neighbor Mike Brand. "All of a sudden, I heard a 'boom' and it was just a really loud boom, like a lightning bolt went down real close by."
Brand said he looked across the street and the impact of the wreck startled him.
"It was incredible over there. I couldn't believe the scene," he said. "The car hit the wall so hard, it knocked a good two-and-a-half to three-foot of concrete out of the wall. Two foot from the roof, all the way down to the floor."
"Pretty extreme damage," said homeowner Jacob Glickman, sitting in a car with his wife. "It knocked a hole in the front wall. It actually moved one of the walls of the house about 18 inches backwards and lifted the roof up. You can actually see into the house. It breached the wall completely."
No one inside the home was hurt. The driver died on the scene, officials said.
Neighbors said the street has always been dangerous. "I'm here 36 years, this is the worst accident that I've seen," said Alan Gordon. "But we've seen quite a few accidents over here. This is a bad corner."
The homeowner purchased the home in March. The building inspector determined it was not safe to be inside and the Glickmans will be forced to sleep somewhere else for the time being.
Police have not yet identified the driver. The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
