MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- They call themselves War Dogs - two young men who make a fortune from the military without stepping on the battlefield.

"If really you just have an internet connection and a dream, then you can bid on these contracts," said actor Jonah Hill.

Miles Teller and Jonah Hill are Florida friends who become international arms dealers. They exploit a little-known government loophole and land a $300-million contract to supply weapons to allies in Afghanistan.

The movie "War Dogs" is based on true events, told through the perspective of Teller's character.

"He's doing all this stuff. He's trying to provide for his girl. He doesn't have a clear-cut idea of what he wants to do with his life and I think in your early 20s that's pretty much what everyone is going through," said Teller.

Their scheme requires the help of Bradley Cooper as a shady middle man.

For Hill's character, money is always the driving force.

"His character is so evil. He's so manipulative and he's got a lot of bad motives, I think. But he's also so charismatic and charming," Hill said about Cooper's character.

"This is the job - to do business with the people in places the U.S. Government can't do business with directly," said Hill.

It was an epic hustle, and it almost worked until greed got in the way.

The movie "War Dogs" is in theaters nationwide starting August 19th.
