Rio Still Preparing Ahead Of Olympics Opening Ceremony

RIO DE JANEIRO, BRAZIL (CBSMiami) -- Millions of viewers from around the world are expected to watch the Olympics opening ceremony Friday night but Rio de Janeiro is still working around the clock to make sure everything is ready.
Along Rio De Janeiro's famous Copacabana Beach, American tourists are snapping pictures and making memories ahead of the Olympic Games.
"I'm so excited to be here. It's amazing," said American Tourist Isabel Silva.
Armed police officers are watching the crowds very closely.
"My antenna is up, but it is nice to see the presence here. It is what you would expect at the Olympics," said American tourist Rod White.
Military ships could also be spotted right off the coast.
The well-maintained landscaping and beautifully painted buildings are what tourists will see along pedestrian walkways built specifically for the Olympics but just steps away, there's what many consider the real Rio - construction and worn down buildings
Finishing touches are being done on a new subway line expected to officially open Friday. It was supposed to be finished months ago.
As for Team USA, most members are ready to go, including the most decorated Olympian ever- Swimmer Michael Phelps with 22 medals. He will carry the stars and stripes at Friday's opening ceremony.
"Just the honor and the opportunity to do that, it's incredible," said Phelps.
Phelps is looking to add to his collection of gold and so will all the other American athletes while thousands of fans from around the world get a taste of the Olympics in South America for the first time ever.
