Neighborhood On Edge After 11-Year-Old Shot In Drive By

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A southwest Miami-Dade neighborhood is on edge as police investigate the shooting of an 11-year-old boy.
Investigators said Jamarie London walked out of the house to talk to his brother around 10:10 p.m. on Monday.
That's when a dark-colored SUV drove by and someone or some people inside the car began shooting – hitting the child in the upper torso.
"We heard 'pop, pop, pop,' so we thought it was fireworks," a neighbor said.
Another neighbor added, "I crawled to the door and heard my neighbor yell across the street telling me to call the police."
It was gunshots these neighbors heard.
With the gunman still out there, residents in the neighborhood didn't want their faces shown or names revealed.
"I don't know, my instinct just said go outside," a neighbor said. "So when I ran outside, I hear them screaming, 'No, no, no,' and instantly I just went into like the mothering thing."
On the ground was the 11-year-old boy – shot in the upper torso.
"I did see, you know, blood profusely coming out of his side," a neighbor said.
She says the boy's mother was in a panic and neighbors tried to calm her until help arrived.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue took the child to the Nicklaus Children's Hospital. At last check, he was listed in stable condition.
Police are still looking for the shooter, and neighbors are on edge and hoping police find the person who shot their young neighbor.
"Scary, just praying for him," a neighbor said.
"That could've so easily been a kid of mine," another neighbor added.
The motive of the shooting is still unknown at this time.
