MIAMI (CBSMiami) -  A South Florida couple is recovering after they were shot as they sat in a car outside a Kendall home overnight Friday.

With his arm in a sling, 22-year-old Christian Martinez recalls how he was shot in his shoulder.

"It came in the back and out the front," said Martinez.

Priscilla Macia woke her parents in a panic in the middle of the night. She and her boyfriend Martinez were both bleeding.

The young couple had been just two blocks away from Macia's home, talking in Martinez's red Mustang when they say two men approached the car and started shooting.

"And they broke the window with a gunshot. And I didn't  know I had gotten shot at the time. But I just told him to reverse as fast as he can and to not look back and to just keep going forward.  Then he noticed  he was bleeding everywhere and so was I," said Priscilla.

"I threw the car into reverse and I punched it,"said Martinez in an interview with CBS4's Peter D'Oench."I feared for both of our safeties. I just wanted to get out of there."

They rushed over to her parents where her dad immediately rushed out with his own gun, ready to protect his family.

"Because we thought he was following us, so I took off my shoes and was on the phone with 911 explaining the situation and I banged on the door really hard and my dad came out," said Priscilla.

"She doesn't remember them asking anything at all. They were screaming at them. But they were not demanding anything and they were shooting," said Rocio Macia, Priscilla's mom.

Martinez was hit in the shoulder. At first, they thought just shattered glass cut Macias' leg but a bullet actually tore through her, too.

"We were putting pressure on the wound for him and that's when I noticed I was bleeding down my leg. But I didn't think it was a gunshot wound. I thought it was like glass. Turns out it was a gunshot wound and there's a bullet in there," said Priscilla.

Both were rushed to the hospital while Miami-Dade Police carefully processed the car for evidence.

As Macia returned home from the hospital on crutches but alive and well, there was a huge sense of relief for her and her loved ones.

"Scared. Very scared. Thank God we have our daughter tonight," said her dad.

"I feel very, very lucky to be alive," said Priscilla.

D'Oench asked Martinez "How do you feel at this point?"

"It is a little sore with the wound. Other than that it feels good," said Martinez.

When asked if they knew the men, Martinez said, "No I don't know. I couldn't see them. It was too dark. They could have been trying to rob us."

"Did they say anything at all?" asked D'Oench.

"No they were just tapping on the window and I heard gunfire," said Martinez.

They're hoping someone knows the shooter.

"You have to come forward and give any information to please help us out. This is very dangerous and needs to stop," said Martinez.

As for the motive, that remains unclear. The shooters have not been found and

The shooters have not been found and Miami-Dade Police does not have a description to release of them. If you can help, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
