CORAL SPRINGS (CBSMiami) – A police pursuit of a stolen medical transport van came to crashing end in Margate.

The Mercedes Car Max van was taken from the 600 block of NW 8th Avenue in Pompano Beach. Broward sheriff’s deputies spotted it in Oakland Park. The driver, identified as 23-year old Xavier Johnson,  went through several cities, striking several vehicles along the way. Coral Springs briefly joined the chase after Johnson ran a red light but called off their officers a short time later.

When Johnson reportedly attempted to shake off pursuing officers by going through stopped traffic at the intersection of Royal Palm Avenue and State Road 7, he ended up hitting four vehicles and disabling the van.

When he tried to make a run for it on foot, he was quickly taken into custody.

The drivers in the cars he hit were treated on the scene for minor injuries. One person was taken to the hospital for evaluation.
