MIAMI (CBSMiami) — If you’ve ever moved to a new home before, you know it’s not exactly an easy task and that’s where “Lauren’s List” is here to help.

CBS4’s Lauren Pastrana has moved quite a few times in her life, and while she loves living in new places, the act of moving all my stuff is one of her least favorite things to do.

Packing and transporting the contents of your life can be a daunting undertaking, but here are a few tips that will make the process a bit smoother.

1. Pack an overnight bag with essentials. You’ll probably be too tired to unpack boxes as soon as they’re all unloaded. Treat that first night like a hotel stay and have pajamas, a change of clothes, and toiletries at the ready.

2. Label your boxes by which room they’ll be going into AND use a numbering system. Write down everything that’s in each numbered box on a separate piece of paper so you won’t have to open every box labeled “kitchen” looking for your wine glasses to toast your new home.

3. If you can, show up to your new house the day before you officially move in and do a deep clean. Better yet, hire a cleaning company to do it, as you might still be at your old house packing up!

4. Make your last grocery trip two weeks before moving. Moving is expensive enough without wasting your hard earned money on food you’ll have to throw out.
