Arian Foster To Work Out For Dolphins On Monday

With starting running back Lamar Miller moving on to the Houston Texans in free agency this offseason, the Dolphins are looking at all possible options to fill the void left at running back, including four-time pro bowler and former NFL rushing leader Arian Foster.

Foster, 29, who played in only four games for the Texans last season before rupturing his Achilles tendon in a game against the Dolphins last year, is looking for an opportunity to start for a team this season and with the Dolphins' youth and inexperience at running back, that may be a distinct possibility.

The Dolphins' candidates to lead the rushing attack heading into camp right now are Jay Ajayi, a 2015 fifth-round draft pick with only 49 carries to his name, rookie Kenyan Drake, this year's third-round pick who backed up Derrick Henry at Alabama and Damien Williams, who has 52 total carries in his two years in the league.

While the Dolphins have stated numerous times that they believe those three can carry the load at running back this year, Foster would be a major upgrade at the position provided he can stay healthy.

When he's been healthy, Foster has been among the league's best running backs and he's just one season removed from a 13-game, 260 carry, 1,246 yard campaign in 2014.

However, health has been his primary issue over the course of his career and he's only played in all 16 games twice in seven years - the last time coming in 2012 when he rushed for 1,424 yards and 15 TDs.

This will be Fosters' second meeting with the Dolphins after the two sides met in March for what was reportedly a medical follow up to check on Fosters' progress and prognosis following his season-ending injury last year.

Foster is also scheduled to meet with the Detroit Lions later this week.

Bryan Altman is, for some reason, an unabashed fan of the Rangers, Jets and Mets. If he absolutely had to pick a basketball team it would be the Knicks, but he'd gladly trade them for just one championship for any of his other three teams.
