Former Dolphin WR Davone Bess Surrenders To SWAT After Standoff

By Rahul Lal

Davone Bess, former Miami Dolphin and Cleveland Brown, has been attempting to tackle his issues with mental health since late in his career. In the most recent battle, Bess barricaded himself in his car and eventually in his Arizona home after fleeing from a traffic stop.

At 4:45 a.m. on Monday morning, after hours of holding out, SWAT officers in conjunction with police officers were able to arrest the former wide receiver after obtaining a warrant to lawfully enter his home, according to the Arizona Republic.

This is just another unfortunate chapter in Bess' downward spiral after football. Toward the end of the 2013 NFL season, the Browns placed the troubled wide receiver on the non-football illness list and attributed it to emotional distress.

Currently, Bess faces three felony charges per the Arizona Republic: endangerment, felony flight and failure to stop for a police officer.

Bess also had a standoff with officers in early 2013, when the mental issues began. Since then, he has had a bizarre string of outbursts on social media posting nude photos and multiple photos of marijuana. Bess was reportedly hospitalized during his time in the NFL due to his mental issues.
