Thieves Hit North Miami Lawn Equipment Store

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - The police have asked for the public's help in finding three thieves who broke into a lawn equipment company in North Miami Beach overnight.

The owners of Bob's Lawnmowers Sales and Service located near West Dixie Highway and 152nd Street are in disbelief.

"I've been robbed. They hooked up a chain to my front door and yanked it off, ran in there and took all the high end equipment. I'm like in shock," said owner Mary Summey.

Surveillance video captured the masked subjects attaching a chain to the front gate of the business and pulling it down with a car. It all happened around 4 a.m.

The business is family owned.

"We've been here 60 odd years. We've been here a long time," said co-owner Joe.

According to the co-owner, the crooks looked like they knew exactly what they were doing.

"Lawn guys are hit every day so getting hit is one of those things," said Joe. "It's the fact that someone came in to your shop and robbed you like that. It's the society we live in today."

Once inside, the crooks took off with the cash register, some chainsaws and hedge trimmers. The owners estimated a loss of $10,000 worth of equipment.

Summey said this is the fourth break-in they've had this year. Thieves have tried to break in through the back before, but this is the first time they actually made it inside the store.

If you have any information on this crime, call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS. Remember, you can always remain anonymous and you may be eligible for a $1,000 reward.
