New Business: Auto Suppliers Expected To Usher In Hundreds Of Jobs

DETROIT (WWJ) - An auto supplier is set to build a new plant in Detroit and create as many as 750 new jobs.

The Michigan Economic Development Corporation says the $95 million factory will be built on 30-acres of a newly negotiated land deal (in the form of property tax abatement and or zoning) from the Economic Development Corporation of Detroit.

Detroit Mayor Mike Duggan and executives from Flex N Gate are expected to make a formal announcement Wednesday.

Flex N Gate makes bumpers, exterior trim, lighting and chassis assemblies. It has a new contract to make parts for Ford Motor Company. The state and city are giving the company tax breaks and grants to help finance the plant.

Meantime, auto supply company Cosworth plans to spend $30 million to build a new plant in Shelby Township and create 50 new jobs.
