Miami Heat's Justise Winslow Named To USA Basketball Select Team

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Miami Heat rookie forward Justise Winslow will get the chance to compete with some of the best basketball players that the United States has to offer as he was picked to join the 2016 USA Basketball Select Team.

The Select Team serves as "sparring partner" for the USA Basketball Men's National Team and will train in Las Vegas, Nevada from July 18-21.

Winslow, a 2016 NBA All-Rookie second team selection, joins 24 other young hoopers on the Select Team – which will be coached by San Antonio Spurs coach Gregg Popovich, Spurs assistant Ime Udoka and Villanova's Jay Wright.

In his first season with the Heat, Winslow averaged six points and five rebounds per game while establishing himself as one of the better defenders in the Eastern Conference.

Other NBA players tabbed for the Select Team included: Los Angeles Lakers forward Julius Randle and guard D'Angelo Russell; Orlando Magic forward and dunking savant Aaron Gordon; Phoenix Suns sharpshooting forward Devin Booker; Minnesota Timberwolves guard and dunk champion Zach Lavine; Portland Trailblazers guard CJ McCollum; Denver Nuggets guards Emmanuel Mudiay and Gary Harris; Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker; Boston Celtics guard Marcus Smart; Sacramento Kings center Willie Cauley-Stein; Philadelphia 76ers big man Jahlil Okafor and guard Jerami Grant; Charlotte Hornets center Cody Zeller; Chicago Bulls forward Doug McDermott; Detroit Pistons guards Stanley Johnson and Kentavious Caldwell-Pope; Utah Jazz forward Rodney Hood and Indiana Pacers guard Myles Turner.

A handful of college/draftable rookies were also added to the roster, including Duke's Brandon Ingraham; Michigan State's Denzel Valentine Virginia's Malcolm Brogdon; Providence's Kris Dunn and North Carolina's Brice Johnson.

The 2016 USA Basketball Showcase presented by Verizon will feature the USA Basketball Men's National Team playing five domestic exhibition games and conducting training camps in Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Oakland, Chicago and Houston.
