Summer breeze is in the air!  And nowhere else will you find greater excitement at that notion than in the faces of children eagerly awaiting that last school bell to ring.  For many of us, however, this is also a time to consider the fact that thousands of students in Broward County will likely return to school in the fall without proper supplies or clothing unless the community takes action.

For the past five years, the CSC has supported the Back to School Community Extravaganza campaign by issuing a challenge grant and engaging dozens of partners and funders to ensure that these children have the opportunity to walk to class with crisp new uniforms, shoes, good quality backpacks and grade appropriate supplies that will allow them to focus on social and academic success. Last school year, community partners helped over 5,500 children get back to school with essential supplies.

The Back to School Extravaganza is made possible by the support of organizations such as the following: The Jim Moran Foundation, Neighbors for Neighbors, In Jacob's Shoes, the Broward Sheriff's Office, Converse Shoes, the YMCA of South Florida, the Fort Lauderdale Strikers, Carlyn Uniforms, HandsOn Broward, Broward County Public Schools, the Crockett Foundation, Running with Sole, Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital, the Broward Education Foundation and many other partners.

The Children's Services Council of Broward County is an independent taxing authority which was established by a public referendum on September 5, 2000, and reauthorized via referendum on November 4, 2014, which, through Public Act, Chapter 2000-461 of the laws of Florida, authorized the Council to levy up to 0.5 mills of property taxes. The role of the Council is to provide the leadership, advocacy and resources necessary to enhance children's lives and empower them to become responsible, productive adults through collaborative planning and funding of a continuum of quality care.
