Police Need Help In Finding Driver In Deadly Hit & Run Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Miami-Dade police have asked for the public's help in finding a driver who struck a 61-year old man on a bike and left him to die.

It happened around 1 a.m. Friday in the area of the NW 30th Avenue and North River Drive.

Surveillance cameras captured a dark-color pickup truck which police suspect hit Jorge Vargas who was riding a motorized bike.

Vargas was thrown from his bike and onto the sidewalk, hitting his head on the pavement.

After the crash, the driver sped off without stopping to help.

Police think the truck is either a Chevrolet Silverado or a GMC Sierra. It may have damage to the right headlight and damage to the right bumper and hood.

Vargas's grieving friends say he was a simple man who lived for cycling and spearfishing

Anyone with information on the truck, or its driver, is asked to call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
