MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A show of support for a student turned rowdy and led to a lockdown at a Coral Spring school Friday.

The school day at Taravella High School started with a show of solidarity with students carrying flags from every nation. Some cars were draped in patriotism.

"It was just a good time for us to show people that Haitians and everybody can just be like together," said student Alexis Jones.

In a few hours the support turned chaotic. A golf cart was crashed. There were food fights in the cafeteria. There were reports of students skipping classes and that was just for starters.

"They put a bunch of crickets in the cafeteria. I think that's what took it over the edge but you know people were celebrating their cultures and that was fine," said student Faisal Zboon.

The disruption can be traced to what happened Wednesday on Haitian Flag Day when a student claims an administrator took her flags away and she posted a negative comment on social media. That led to an in house suspension.

"If it was a regular day and they were just being brutal for no reason...then I could understand it a little better but it was literally Haitian Flag Day," said student Abigale Thomas.

The student herself thought things went over the edge with the rowdy behavior tweeting, "You guys are out of control and that's not the point. Peace only, not all this."
