MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – A grey Infiniti traveling southbound on University Drive in Miramar jumped a curb and struck a woman and two small children late Saturday afternoon.

The victims were transported to Memorial Regional Hospital.

The vehicle fled the scene and was followed by multiple witnesses.

The driver, 39-year-old Jessica Crane, jumped another curb near the 8300 block of Miramar Parkway before being detailed by Miramar Police officers.

"She was driving in and out of traffic, in and out of traffic, trying to light a cigarette," said witness Johnny Brooks, who watched the vehicle nearly hit him and his family before striking the victims. "It got back in the regular lane and kept going like nothing had happened."

Another witness, Ramon Rodriguez, followed the car nearly half a mile, from University Drive and Pembroke Road south to Miramar Parkway after seeing it hit the victims.

"I jumped out of [my] car and jumped inside [Crane's] car and pulled her out," he said. "I didn't know it was a lady, I thought it was a guy."

Crane has been charged with leaving the scene of an accident with injures. Additional charges are pending.

The adult female victim remains in critical condition.

The two children, ages three and five, have injuries that are not life threatening.
