Digital Makeup Counter? There's An App For That

MIAMI (CBSMiami) — For many women, it's nearly impossible to pick out the perfect lip color or foundation just by looking at the box — but it's also hard to find the time to sit down at a makeup counter and try it all out.

Now, there's a digital solution for busy women who still want to look their best.

Apps like Loreal's 'Makeup Genius' and CoverGirl's the soon-to-be-released 'Beauty U' app, turn your phone into a virtual makeup mirror.

"Women are always asking us how can you make the shopping process easier and more intuitive and we're really fortunate that technology and mobile apps can enable that for women," CoverGirl Communications manager Laura Brinker said.

According to Brinker, the app looks at the shape of your face, eyes and eyebrows, your lips and your skin tone to make suggestions. It also asks a number of questions about what types of look you may like. The apps then gives you a list of looks you can scroll through until you find one you like.

Some apps allow you to try out celebrity looks, or different hair colors and styles. OPI, a nail polish brand, will show you what colors will look great on your manicure.

POPSUGAR's Kirbie Johnson says it not only saves you time, but it saves you money.

"You don't have to go to a store, pick out a product, spend your hard-earned money and risk not liking the shade," Johnson said.

In addition to trying out different shades, some apps allow you to try out entirely different looks, including those of some of your favorite celebrities.
