On The Radar: Offseason Series – Part 19

SFHSSports: Twitter | Facebook

Here we are, back on the field once again – where football simply never ends.

Spring football starts this coming Monday and this is the time the next few classes start to show colleges across the country what they can do with pads on.

As 7-on-7s, combines and camps are great – truthfully, where would we be without them – they are little measuring stick to college coaches who are putting jobs and tradition on the line when recruiting these prospects.

What happens at the end of April and throughout the month of May will change lives. Offers will be made and dreams will remain alive.

For others who have not put in the work since the end of the 2015 season, reality will certainly stare them right in the face as hundreds of college coaches head south to watch and evaluate for themselves – not going off what someone with little overall evaluating experience has told them.

This is perhaps the most important part of the year for so many. Even the high-star rating athletes are put through the ringer as college coaches stop going off what these young men did in a pair of shorts and a t-shirt and concentrate on what they do when they get hit in the mouth.

This is a period of time that no matter how good you are, relaxing in South Florida and resting on what you've done in the past can cost you.

Like we continue to do throughout the course of a season, nobody will break down more athletes and promote them nationally like we do. We have given our South Florida fans nearly 3,000 prospects a year – and that translates into a lot of exposure.

As we continue to watch throughout the spring, you can guarantee that we will keep the football prospects coming right to. Here are six more talented prospects who have jumped On The Radar:

2018 – Kenneth Bell, Jr., DB/WR, 5-11, 175, Coral Springs Charter: After an unbeaten season for the Panthers, there are plenty of spots open this spring and summer as a new head coach comes in with plenty of optimism about a player who will be counted on heavily. Bell is a two-way standout that is cat-quick and very athletic. His ability to lock down that corner position will give this team a huge edge during the upcoming season. He has big time potential and he has two more years.

2018 – Trenell Troutman, DB, 5-11, 175, Monsignor Pace: There is no other way to say this about this impressive football player without coming out and boasting that this is a top five football talent in South Florida and perhaps top 15 statewide for the Class of 2018. Troutman comes to Pace from Northwestern this year after a brilliant youth career. Last season for the Bulls, he was indeed one of those athletes that everyone gravitated towards. He is fast, athletic and understands the game as well as anyone. Major colleges are already taking a look. He has also been "lights out" during the 7-on-7 season.

2017 – Kobe Green, S, 5-11, 185, Deerfield Beach: There may be a chance that the so-called experts are sleeping on this young man – and that would be a huge mistake. Coming over from Coconut Creek, where he was really a huge factor in the success of the Cougars last season, Green is a very talented prospect that brings everything to the table. He is physical and very talented, and competing with a program as talented as the Bucks are, you can guarantee that college coaches will get their fill of this young man this spring. He will emerge as one of the best around.

2018 – Ceddarius Johnson, CB, 6-2, 180, Killian: With all the offseason moves being made across South Florida, there was very little made about this tremendous talent who was such a find for Homestead last year. After making the move north to play for the Cougars, Johnson is a very exciting player to watch. He will not only drop into pass coverage with the best, but with his size and knack of being able to hit you hard, he also plays the role of a run stopper too. Many of the high school coaches who have watched him play believe that this is yet another football talent will make that jump in status as soon as this spring.

2017 – Keaundre Roberts, LB, 5-10, 200, Norland: Very few programs can boast the defensive talent that the Vikings have been able to trot out on the field. Having watched this team play a few times last year, here is one of those talents who not only followed the lead of the two seniors playing alongside him, but he learned so much about the position from getting out and playing each week. In addition to what he does on defense, this quality talent has also helped as a special teams player on kickoffs. Watch him this coming year – you won't be disappointed.

2017 – William Wooldridge, QB/FS, 6-0, 185, Taravella: This is a program that seems to produce athletes like this young man. Football players who are willing to do what it takes to get on the field – some way. Wooldridge is a quality athlete who can throw and run from the quarterback position. He has learned how to read defenses and is expected – with a new coaching staff – to continue making progress. His play as a safety is also something that head coach Charles Hafley will be able to help him with, and give the colleges an outstanding player to keep an eye on. This spring and summer will be huge for this young man as well.
