Beam Falls, Injuring Workers At Miami Dade College Campus

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Authorities are investigating a construction accident at a Miami-Dade College campus in Doral - the same site of a deadly collapse years before.
Police said a beam that was being installed fell off and injured two workers at the college's West campus around 2:30 p.m.
Miami Dade Fire officials said one was in serious condition and the other was non-life threatening.
Chopper 4 was over the scene as Miami-Dade Fire Rescue arrived to pull out the workers who were hurt.
"They were on an elevated platform that we had to get them down from. They were not pinned by anything. We packaged them in a basket and brought them down using our ladder truck," said Chief Jeff Strickland with Miami Dade Fire Rescue.
This is the same site as a parking garage collapse in 2012 that killed four people and injured seven others.
Miam-Dade College did reach a settlement with that contractor who wanted to repair the garage but the school wanted to use the $26.5 million dollars it received to start fresh, dismantling that garage to build a "brand new, safe structure."
CBS4's Donna Rapado spoke to some people who were questioning moving forward with the garage now that there have been two construction accidents.
At last check, the campus remained open.
Miami Dade College issued a statement on the incident saying in part, "Earlier today, there was a construction incident at MDC's West Campus garage that is currently under construction. There are some minor injuries reported. Because it is Friday, there are not many classes taking place or many people around. Classes and operations have not been impacted. The Campus is open. "
