MIAMI (CBSMiami) — A 17-year old girl was reunited with her family after she was lost at sea for hours.

Coast Guard crews searched for the teen by air and sea off Tarpon Springs, Florida on Sunday. They spotted her around 10 p.m. after a 4-hour search.

The girl’s family said she had become separated from them during a kayaking trip and had not returned.

The girl later told Coast Guard crews she had lost her paddle in a boat’s wake causing her to drift for several hours in the dark.

At last check, she was in stable condition with signs of mild hypothermia.
