HOLLYWOOD (CBSMiami) – A man walked into a Hollywood restaurant with a machete in hand and made a beeline for two people sitting at a table.

Hollywood police said Cedi Pacheco attacked two men at a restaurant on the Broadwalk early Saturday after a confrontation over a woman.

One of the victims suffered more than a dozen slashes to his back and hips, a severe cut to his head and cuts to his arm that went through bone.

Kishu Ramsay spoke to CBS4 News on Thursday about the incident. He said that he and several family members were at Mamacita's Restaurant with a friend, Christopher Jonson, when another person in their party got into an argument with Pacheco and his friends over a woman. Police said that led to a fistfight.

Tempers cooled – or so Ramsay thought. Ten minutes later, he said, surveillance video shows Pacheco returning to the restaurant with a machete.

"We were ambushed," Ramsay said. "Anyone that leaves and takes any amount of time to come back, it's obviously premeditated. Their primary purpose is not I'm gonna hurt you. It's gonna kill you."

The video shows restaurant customers fleeing as Pacheco lands blow after blow on Ramsay's friend. Ramsay thought his friend might die.

"When I looked back, I saw my friend on the ground, covering himself, shielding himself and this guy with the machete going at him like that, continuously," Ramsay told CBS 4 News.

On the video, you see several young men walking with Pacheco to the restaurant then running away after the attack. Police want to speak with them or anyone who witnessed this violence.

Investigators said Pacheco fled the scene but was captured later in Miami.

Pacheco appeared in court Thursday on the charges, including two counts of attempted murder.

For Ramsay the physical scars are one thing, but the emotional ones are another.

He said what Pacheco did to him and his friend and the terror he placed in Ramsay's family with him at the restaurant are enough to make him leave South Florida.

"He needs to be kept off the streets and off anywhere from the general public," Ramsay said. "You wouldn't think that you're going to go to Hollywood beach and sit there with your family and there's kids involved and everything and something like that's gonna happen."

CBS4 News tried to speak with Jonson but his attorney said that he simply needs to rest.

It's unclear the extent of the damage that victim will have to live with for the rest of his life especially to his arm and hand.

Hollywood police urge you to call them at (954 967-4411 or to call Crime Stoppers at (954) 493 TIPS if you witnessed the attack or know anyone else involved in it.
