HIALEAH (CBSMiami) -- Police have arrested three men believed to have held up an elderly man who fought back and was pistol-whipped.

The victim told police he confronted the men near the 6400 block of W. 8th Court in Hialeah, when he noticed their car parked near his home and believed that they were lost.

"The guy jumps out of the back seat of the car with a gun," said the victim, as he approached them. "He says 'Gimme your wallet, gimme your jewelry."

With a cut on his forehead and blood still on his shirt, the 85-year-old man, who didn't want to give us his name, said he noticed the car follow him home from the grocery store.

He thinks they were waiting to rob him and his wife inside their home. What they didn't expect was a confrontation.

"I told them, 'I'm not giving you anything, get the hell out of here.' The guy put the gun in front of my head. I took my hand and slapped it away. He held onto it and then he hit me in the head with it."

Just as bold as the thieves, this man refused to cooperate.

"When the gun was pushed away, I punched him," he said.

His wife screamed and called 911 while her husband struggled with the crooks. They took off but it didn't take long before Hialeah Police found them following a short chase.

All three suspects were arrested in Opa-locka -- a sigh of relief for the man who says at this point in his life, he's not handing anything over.

"I'm 85 years old. I'm thinking, I didn't go all through life for some guy to come and steal what I got."

The gallant golden-ager did go to the hospital, although, other than some bruises and scratches, he's doing fine.

The suspects got nothing in their robbery attempt.
