MARGATE (CBSMiami) -- After a little girl was severely beaten by a rock, a Ft. Lauderdale man is in police custody facing numerous charges.

Webens Veillard, 33, was arrested following the vicious attack inside a Margate home on S.W. 11th Street Friday night, as reported by the Sun-Sentinel.

Police said Veillard was visiting the home when he got upset and began choking a woman. As she escaped from his grasp, Veillard picked up a decorative paving stone in the yard and chased her.

He then used the stone to smash a window and climb inside the home.

Once inside, police said he then targeted an 8-year-old girl and attacked her in her bedroom. He struck her in the head with the stone, choked her and threatened to kill her.

Witnesses were able to pull him off.

The child suffered a fractured skull and was taken to Broward Health Medical Center. She was listed in stable condition.

On Saturday, Veillard was charged with attempted premeditated murder, aggravated child abuse, battery, burglary and aggravated assault.
