MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- As police continue their search for the gunmen, a mother is recounting the moment a pair of armed robbers threatened to shoot her baby for cash.

"It was really scary. Like your worst nightmare coming true. An out-of-body experience. I felt like I was watching it from the outside," said the woman, too scared to reveal her identity. "For something so petty as a couple hundred dollars maybe. It's just really sad and it floored me, I couldn't believe he would do that."

The two men were caught on surveillance cameras at the store where the woman works on N.W. 2nd Avenue, near Wynwood. It was around 1 p.m. when the crooks walked in and pretended they were shopping.

The clerk was behind the register with her 9-month-old son.

"The guys acted like they were buying a bag of chips and then he put the money on the counter. When I looked back up he had a gun in my face," said the victim. "He told me to put the baby on the ground and I listened. Then he pointed the gun at the baby and was like, 'As long as you do what I say it will be fine, but if you do anything stupid I will shoot your baby.'"

Mom did what they said. The robbers emptied the register and ran out.

"I told him there's not a lot of money in here. We don't keep a lot of money and he just ripped out the cash drawer, told me to get on the ground and left."

The store owner told CBS4 News they don't keep large amounts of money in the register for this exact reason.

They installed bullet-proof glass, a buzzer to let people in and cameras all over the store.

"You don't do that to a baby. It's stupid. It's ignorant. They're gonna get what they deserve," said Aubrey Watson, the store owner.

Thankful no one was hurt, the owner employee are all too aware that the situation could have ended much differently.

"My fear was, what if someone walked in? Even if he didn't intend on shooting anybody, if someone walked in and scared him and the gun went off and someone did get hurt. It could have went a lot of different ways."

Detectives are asking for the public's help to identify the men seen on surveillance. There's a cash reward for information leading to an arrest. Call Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS.
