The South Florida coaching carousel continues to turn.

SFHSSports learned Friday afternoon that American has fired Anthony White as its head football coach.

White, a former assistant at Norland prior to taking his first head coaching job with the Patriots, spent two seasons at American – going 15-7 during his tenure but also making first-round exits from the playoffs both years.

American athletic director Marcus Gabriel confirmed the move Friday.

"We are reliving Coach White of his duties as head coach – effective immediately. I appreciated his services and I wish him well in his future endeavors."

Gabriel said that an interim coach has not yet been named, but that one will be tabbed in the coming days.

White's departure comes on the heels of reports that his son and Class of 2017 standout athlete Anthony White Jr. has transferred to Miami Central.

White Jr., who holds offers from Syracuse, North Carolina State and South Carolina, would just be the latest former Patriots player to take their talents to the four-time defending Class 6A state champion Rockets this offseason.

Coach White took over for Corey Bell, who took a job as an assistant at Florida Atlantic University, in 2014 and led the Patriots to a 9-2 record while competing in Class 7A in his first season. This past season, the Pats moved up to Class 8A but took a step back as they went 6-5 and fell to Christopher Columbus in the region 4-8A quarterfinals.
