KEY BISCAYNE (CBSMiami) -- Actress, mother, businesswoman and now author Kate Hudson stopped into South Florida to spend her time with other powerful women.

Kate appeared at  The Rusty Pelican on Key Biscayne for the International Business Woman of the Year Awards. CBS4's Lisa Petrillo moderated the event and sat down for an exclusive interview with Kate.

She couldn't be more grounded and its clear that came from her family roots growing up with role model parents Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell.

"We had a fun childhood.  We had very present parents despite their busy schedules. They were very present and now with my brother and all of our kids that's our whole family's motto - family first," Kate said.

Kate, who is a Golden Globe winner  and  Oscar nominee appearing in such hit films as  "Almost Famous" and "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" among many others  says  she just loves everything about the process of movie-making.

"I love making movies and it's not so much about the end product. It's about the whole experience. The people I meet and work with become family and I love every minute of it," Kate said.

She's been on a busy tour promoting her  new book "Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love your  Body."

"When a woman feels good about herself. I don't care what she looks like, it's the most magnetic thing in the room," Kate told the room filled with guests.

It's a guidebook for getting healthy and being mindful.

"It's really about a holistic approach to finding peace with yourself -  acceptance and peace then you get excited about what you're eating because it feels good and then you can get excited about getting stronger because you're exercising and it feels more accessible," said Kate.

She's also a businesswoman, launching her own athletics clothing line called Fabletics three years ago

The 36-year old actress charmed the crowd and Petrillo, leaving all of them feeling like they've made a new friend.

"You're super cool. Everyone just wants to have a cocktail or a beer with you. You're just one of those girls," said Petrillo

"I'm all for it. I like cocktails, every once in a while. Let's do it," Hudson said.

The book "Pretty Happy: Healthy Ways to Love your  Body" is now out in book stores. Next on the big screen for Kate is a movie called Mother's Day, in which she stars alongside Jennifer Aniston.
