MIAMI (CBSMiami) –It was a scary afternoon for a family in southwest Miami-Dade.

Miami-Dade Fire officials said a neighbor called in the fire around 2:15 p.m. When they arrived, they found heavy smoke and flames at the home located at SW 134th Avenue and 66th Street. They sent out nine pieces of equipment to battle the blaze.

They later found Buddy in the yard.
“When we got here the house was on fire and I didn’t know where Buddy was. I was like where is Buddy and they told me that he ran out,” said the owner’s daughter Barbara Santiesbevan.
Chopper 4 was over the scene where a gaping hole could be seen on the roof of the home.
