Scare In The Air For Passengers Arriving At MIA

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – It was a rough day in the air Friday with a lot of nail-biting flight stories.

It was no easy landing for a commercial flight packed with people from New York LaGuardia. They have a story to tell when turbulence near Jacksonville injured five people.

"It was really rough. Oh gosh, it was really ridiculous," said passenger Chris Germain. "It was bouncing up and down and it felt like we did take a little dive."

Germain was on board and buckled in tight.

"The pilot actually said that we can't land right now because he can't see at all because of the rain -- the flight was shaky, it was really crazy," said Germain.

Vinisha Patel's co-worker was on the flight. He told her things got pretty rough.

"The craziest thing he saw was a newborn that was sitting on his dad's lap flew out of the seat and someone else caught the baby," said Patel. "The person in front of him didn't have his seat belt on so he hit the vent. The lady next to him was coming down to Miami for her wedding so she was praying she should make it to her wedding."

Her flight wasn't so smooth either. Just as her flight was about to land in Miami, the pilot had to take quick action.

"The pilot came on and said there was zero visibility. He couldn't see the runway so he had to loop back around and figure out another way to land," said Patel.

Loops over a map of the Bahamas showed the flight path of the mammoth A-380 aircraft from Germany. The foul weather forced it to land in Orlando.

"One of the baggage compartments came open. We had to climb and drop a bit," said John O'Grady from New York City.

"Someone tried to get up to use the bathroom and they came on and said it's extremely dangerous for you to be up moving around," said passenger Hillary Green.

For people who finally got back, they were just grateful to be on the ground.

"Everybody looked like they were kneeling down, and saying prayers. But we got here safe, so we can't be too upset," said Germain.
