SOUTHWEST MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) — Thousands attended the Florida Gun Show in Miami Saturday following President Obama’s controversial executive order on gun control.
The executive order calls for stricter background checks on all firearm sales, closing the loophole for gun shows.
In Texas, a new law allows people to openly carry handguns in many public places.
Gun enthusiasts had mixed reactions.
“I’m against open-carry because I feel it makes you more of a target,” said Adolfo Ginarte, who attended the show. “They know you have a gun and you’re out there, and you’re making people feel uncomfortable. I feel like if it’s your right to carry, then carry. But carry it concealed.”
Others felt the law would keep the community in check, helping to reduce conflict.
“Regardless of the bill, and regardless of a concealed weapons permit, people are gonna carry weapons regardless. So I think that if people were allowed to carry openly, you’d know what you’re getting into,” said Luciano Romero. “It may create more respect towards people.”
That law went into effect on January 1st, allowing nearly a million Texans who have passed a safety course to publicly carry holstered guns.
