DAVIE (CBSMiami) – A registered sex offender from Davie, who just got released from the state's commitment facility for violent sexual offenders, is under arrest again for sexual battery on an underage girl.

Davie Police arrested Michael Leverett earlier this week. They said he sexually battered a 16-year-old girl. Leverett was on the streets less than three months before this latest arrest.

Broward court records show Leverett spent time in prison after being convicted of sexual battery in Broward in 2008.

A judge held him in the Florida Civil Commitment Center in Arcadia for nearly six more years, considering him a "sexually violent predator," records show. Leverett was released from that facility in October of 2015.

Leverett now faces a new charge.

Inside a Davie home, Leverett is accused of sexually battering a 16-year-old girl.

The girl's mother spoke to CBS4 News about the allegations.

"He should have never been on the streets," the victim's mother said. "People like that they don't get fixed."

The girl's mother said she did not know the extent of Leverett's past when her daughter came into contact with him and she wishes she had.

There are lots of questions about why Leverett was released from the state's confinement facility last fall.

The prosecutor told CBS4 News Thursday that an expert for the state believed that Leverett was ready to be released back into society. Leverett signed a contract agreeing to receive sex offender treatment, among other things, and promised not to commit any new violations.

CBS4 News obtained a copy of a letter that Leverett wrote to the court back in August as he argued for his release from the facility.

He said he regretted doing certain things but said he'd become an easy pawn because of his past. He also acknowledged the court and several people who believed he should be released, promising that he was on the right path.

Leverett wrote: "…I can't let them down! Nor you! I know now, it is them and you that have to live with the hurt and pain of letting me out just for me to hurt someone else. I'm obligated now to give back to the people that gave me a life to live…"

But now, Leverett is accused of hurting someone again.

"I hate him with all my heart," the victim's mother said. "I've never hated anyone before. I hate that man."

Leverett has not yet gone before a judge on these charges. CBS4 News is told that he likely is in the hospital for some reason.

People who live near the home where this occurred said they have concerns about why the teenage victim was allowed to be close to someone like Leverett with such a criminal past.

Prison records show he's been in and out of prison since the mid-'80s.
