MIAMI (CBSMiami) - A Grinch made off with a huge holiday haul from a Coconut Grove home.

Robert and Veronica Giannini were asleep in their residence at 3087 Shipping Avenue when a man broke in around 9 a.m. by prying open a rear door.

"It's very invasive, very creepy feeling," Robert Giannini said.

After taking various electronics from the downstairs portion of the home, he made his way upstairs where the couple was sleeping and nabbed various pieces of pricey jewelry before he escaped.

"The brazenness. The way he went through as if he was shopping," Robert Giannini said. "He brought his own grocery bags. He went through our closets, our drawers, my wife's jewelry box."

The Gianninis said the thief was in the home for about 40 minutes before an alarm in the garage finally alerted the couple.

Miami police said the approximate value of the items taken is in the neighborhood of $100,000.

While this has been quite unsettling for the couple, they are managing to stay positive this Christmas Eve.

"It's been a very difficult set of emotions. But at the same time it's Christmas still, we're happy, we have each other and material things are replaceable," Robert Giannini said.
