Former Miami Gardens Police Chief Takes Deal In Prostitution Case

FT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - A former Miami Gardens police chief caught in a prostitution sting in Dania Beach accepted a plea deal.

Stephen Johnson was sentenced to six months probation and ordered to pay a $5,000 fine.

Johnson answered an online ad and negotiated to pay $100 for a 30 minute sex session with two women. What he didn't know was the placed by investigators with the Broward Sheriff's Office.

When he showed up at the motel for the rendezvous, he met with two women in the a room. The women were undercover officers. When he handed over the arranged amount of cash, he was arrested and charged with solicitation.

Johnson was fired after his arrest. He had served as chief since May 2014. He took over the department after the previous chief resigned amid allegations that his officers repeatedly harassed and intimidated Miami Gardens residents.
