MIAMI (CBSMiami) – There's something special in the sky on Christmas. For the first time in 38 years, Christmas Day will feature a full moon.

The last time there was a full moon on Christmas was 1977 and it won't happen again until the year 2034.

According to TimeandDate.com the peak of the December Full Moon in South Florida will occur at 6:11 a.m. on Christmas morning.

The December Full Moon is often called the Full Long Night's Moon or the Full Cold Moon as winter takes hold of much of the nation. It can also be called the Moon Before Yule, according to Space.com.

So as you're looking to the skies for Santa Claus and reindeer on Christmas Eve, be sure to check out the full moon as well.
