Marlins Park Outfield Walls To Be Lowered, Moved In

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – One of the newest ballparks in Major League Baseball is already going to undergo some changes.
Miami Marlins president David Samson has confirmed that Marlins Park is going to have a bit of a different look in 2016.
Giancarlo Stanton and his fellow hitters will be pleased to know that some of the outfield walls in Marlins Park will be shorter and moved closer to home plate.
Samson said the Marlins are waiting for approval on construction permits and that the process could begin as soon as January.
The area of the wall that is being moved in will be in center field and extend to right-center. The distances down the left and right field foul lines will remain the same, at 344 and 335 feet, respectively.
The height of the outfield walls currently range from 11 ½ to 13 feet tall.
The revisions will change the heights in left, right and straightaway center field, ranging from as low as 5 ½ feet to 11 ½ feet.
Additionally, a lowered wall will extend from the base of the center field home run sculpture to the corner of the right-field bullpen.
Marlins Park has always been considered pitcher-friendly, with many hitters complaining that the ballpark played too big.
In 2015 the Marlins were tied for 28th in the majors in home runs at home with just 53.
