MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami police are searching for a driver who was involved in a deadly hit and run.

"He was a great person. He was always with me. He was my best friend," said an emotional Mabel Marti to CBS4's Peter D'Oench.

Polices said Jesus Fernandez was riding his bike when he was struck and killed at Northwest 1st Avenue and 79th Street in Miami around midnight.

It was raining and it was dark and the driver took off.

"When I woke up this morning, they told me about him," cried Marti. She said Fernandez was in his 60s and disabled but loved to ride his bicycle at all hours of the day and night.

"I feel awful, that was my friend. He was honest, he was a great person, if anybody needed anything, he was always there for everybody. It's not fair. He was a great man. He used to give to a lot of people," she explained.

Marti and police want help finding the person who hit Fernandez.

If you know anything about the hit and run, please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at 305-471-TIPS.
