Dolphins, Committee Make Bid To Host Super Bowl In 2019 Or 2020

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The South Florida Super Bowl Bid Committee and representatives from the Miami Dolphins met with NFL officials at the league's New York City headquarters earlier this week to present South Florida's bid to host the Super Bowl in either 2019 or 2020.
Some of those representing the team at the meeting was owner Stephen Ross, president and CEO Tom Garfinkel and Dolphins alum Nat Moore.
The final bid for teams to make will be due on April 15th.
The Super Bowl games will be awarded during an NFL owners meeting in late May.
It was great to be back at the table with NFL officials discussing the Super Bowl's return to South Florida. Stephen Ross' 500 million investment into Sun Life Stadium's renovations certainly allows us to compete with all of the new stadiums coming online. We had a great meeting and feel very optimistic," said Rodney Barreto, chairman of the South Florida Super Bowl Bid Committee.
Other cities that South Florida is competing with to host the Super Bowl are Atlanta, New Orleans and Tampa.
The Dolphins and Ross have spent close to $500 million to renovate Sun Life Stadium with the ultimate goal of hosting more Super Bowl games.
Among the four cities bidding for a Super Bowl, only Atlanta will have a new stadium built in time for the games.
While Miami will not have a brand new stadium, the committee is hopeful that the extensive changes to Sun Life Stadium will more than compensate for not building a brand new venue.
