MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami-Dade Police say Joanne Hines, 22, was found shot and killed in a park. Now her mother is making a plea to find her daughter's killer.

Josette Louis is a grieving mother.

Someone discovered her daughter's body around 3 a.m. Tuesday on a sidewalk inside Oak Grove Park, just a short walk from the apartment Hines shared with her mom.

"I was not only a mother to her, we were like sisters," Louis said. "She tried to get along with others, so I don't know who in the world would do such an act."

On Wednesday night, Miami-Dade Police homicide detectives handed out flyers in the apartment complex, hoping that someone might have seen or heard something.

"We have a 22-year-old young lady who has never been in trouble with the law and is gone and that's such a shame," said Miami-Dade Police spokesperson Marjorie Eloi.

Louis said her daughter came home from school Monday evening at Florida Technical College where she is studying business administration. She said her daughter was heading to an overnight shift as a security guard.

Investigators said they don't know how or why she wound up at the park. But they, like Louis, want to catch the person who took her life.

"There is a killer out there and we would like to find that killer and resolve this," Louis said.

If you have any information regarding Hines' murder, please call Miami-Dade Crime Stoppers at (305) 471-TIPS (8477).
