MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- It's the trend taking the nation by storm, especially in our newsroom... we are talking about adult coloring!
The new trend is no longer a creative outlet for kids, but it's also a form of therapy for grown-ups.
Samantha Hernandez is one of many who uses coloring to relieve stress and unplug from the digital world.
"When I'm coloring, it helps me release a lot of happiness and it helps me release stress," Hernandez says.
At Barnes & Noble in West Kendall, adults get a chance to take a break from work and school by picking up a pencil and coloring away.
"It's a way for adults to be able to unwind and disconnect. A form of therapy for everybody," said Barnes & Noble Manager, Jennifer Hernandez.
Even in our CBS4 newsroom, you can find the finished products posted everywhere.
In Coral Gables, advertisement company VS Brooks, is taking adult coloring to a whole new level. Diana Brooks says the staff takes fifteen minutes of their work day to do the fun activity.
"There's competition and it's a lot of fun and most definitely a distraction," says Brooks.
Employees say they love the stress-free activity in the office and because it's relaxing, it also helps them communicate with their co-workers.
Experts say they have found evidence that coloring has health benefits. The activity engages both sides of the brain, having been shown to reduce blood pressure and relieve stress.
