Drivers to Pay Lowest Thanksgiving Gas Prices Since 2008

MIAMI (CBSMiami) -- Just in time for the holiday season, drivers are paying less at the the pump.

According to AAA, drivers are paying the lowest pump prices for the Thanksgiving holiday since 2008.

All this as, more than 40 million people will hit the road over Thanksgiving week.

With prices falling for 17 consecutive days, drivers are getting a total of 15 cent savings per gallon in many parts of the U.S.

In Miami, drivers are paying $2.21 per gallon, down from $2.24 a week ago.

Drivers in Fort Lauderdale are paying $2.21, down from $2.26 last week.

West Palm Beach and Boca Raton drivers are paying $2.27 at the pump, down from $2.31 last week.

But the drop isn't expected to stop.

The national average retail price of gas is expected to fall below $2 per gallon by the Christmas holiday. Some stations around the U.S are already selling gas for less than $2 per gallon.

The agency says the price drop is a result of more supply entering the market especially in the midwest which reached a production high in the last two months. Also, the demand of gas typically declines during the month of November.

The average gas price per gallon is expected to drop leading into 2016.
