PLANTATION (CBSMiami) - Businesses and residents of Plantation can now file a police report online.

The Plantation Police Department has launched the new Citizens Online Police Reporting System on the city's website - www.plantation.org.

The new system will allow people to file reports on certain types of crimes including minor frauds and thefts, identity theft, harassing phone calls, lost property, traffic information, and vandalism.

Plantation police say the system allows the public to a report at a time which is convenient for them without having to wait for an officer to show up to take a report or call them back.

By using the system, a temporary copy of the report can be printed immediately after its submitted.

All reports filed online will be reviewed by police personnel, and once it is approved, the filer will receive email with an official incident report number and a web link through which they can obtain an electronic copy of their report.

Online incident reports will automatically transfer into the police department's records management system where they will receive the same investigative follow-up as if the online report had been filed by a police officer.
