MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Florida International University students will take their talents to the water by trying to walk on it.
The students have been tasked with designing floating shoes to get them across a 175-foot-wide campus lake. Professor Jaime Canaves created the competition 26 years ago.
The first student to cross the lake during Tuesday's event earns a $1,000 scholarship; the second-place winner receives a $750 award; and third-place gets a $500 award.
Additionally, if a student set a new time record for crossing the lake, he or she will earn an additional $1,000 scholarship.
