NEW PORT RICHEY (CBSMiami/AP) — Police officers are often in dangerous situations but usually they can see it coming. That wasn't the case this time.

Authorities say a deputy and a young police explorer were hit by a driver who ran a red light.

Pasco Sheriff's officials say a 98-year-old driver ran the light Saturday night and hit the officer's patrol car.

The deputy and explorer were transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The elderly driver was also taken to the hospital but his condition was not known.

Authorities did not identify anyone in the crash and no other details were released.

The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating.
