LAUDERDALE LAKES (CBSMiami) -- A 68-year-old woman was killed after authorities discovered her car submerged in a canal Saturday morning.

The Broward Sheriff's Office responded to the scene at 7:23 a.m. near 2900 N.W. 48th Terrace.

According to BSO Public Information Officer Gina Carter, the victim, Catherine Burr, appeared to have accidentally driven over a parking median and into the water. She added that it's possible a medical condition could have played a role.

"The victim in this case does have a history of medical conditions that may have added or attributed to the accident," Carter said.

Burr's family was informed and were at the scene.
