Medical Marijuana Arguments Set For December

TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/NSF) - The Florida Supreme Court will hear arguments this December about a proposed 2016 ballot measure that would allow many patients throughout the state to legally use medical marijuana.
The Supreme Court issued an order Tuesday setting the hearing date for December 8th.
Justices must sign off on ballot language before proposed constitutional amendments can go before voters.
The political committee "People United for Medical Marijuana," led by prominent Orlando attorney John Morgan, is spearheading the effort to get the marijuana initiative on the November 2016 ballot. A similar ballot proposal narrowly failed in 2014.
If the Supreme Court approves the proposed wording, People United for Medical Marijuana would have to submit a total of 683,149 valid petition signatures to get on the ballot. As of Wednesday morning, it had submitted 286,274, according to the state Division of Elections website.
