MIAMI (CBSMiami) - For more than two years, there has been construction closures and changes at the State Road 836/State Road 826 interchange.

This this weekend the project is hitting a milestone.

On Friday the long-awaited opening of the ramp from southbound SR 826/Palmetto Expressway to eastbound SR 836/Dolphin Expressway will finally happen.

The new ramp will be the first exit after the NW 25th Street exit.

But before they can open the new ramp, you guessed it, they'll have to shut down portions of SR 826 overnight.

All southbound lanes of SR 826 will be closed at NW 25th Street from 11 p.m. through 5 a.m. Friday. Also, the southbound SR 826 ramp to westbound SR 836 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. Friday.

On Saturday morning, the new SR 836/Dolphin Expressway eastbound lanes will finally open. They will extend from 87th Avenue to 57th Avenue. The lanes are being shifted north of the current lanes.

"That's a big deal. Traffic on 836 should flow a little easier once we make this change," Oscar Gonzalez from the construction project said.

On Sunday morning the new northbound SR 826 ramp to eastbound and westbound SR 836 will open. It will be located approximately one-quarter mile north of West Flagler Street.

To prepare for those openings, construction crews are shutting down the roadways.

On Friday all eastbound SR 836 lanes will be closed at NW 87 Avenue between 10 p.m. and 6 a.m.

Saturday, all northbound SR 826 lanes will be closed at SW 8 Street starting at 10 p.m. until 6 a.m. Also on Saturday the southbound 826 ramp to eastbound and westbound 836 will be closed from 10 p.m. to 6 a.m.

But be patient we are so close to the finish line, South Florida!

"The entire project will be finished by March of next year. The light at the end of the tunnel is a lot closer," said Gonzalez.
